Trump Says US Military Operation in Iran May Last Longer Than Planned

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the ongoing U.S. military operation in Iran, initially expected to last four to five weeks, could continue for a longer period if required.

"We projected four to five weeks, but we have capability to go far longer than that. We'll do it," Trump said during a White House ceremony discussing Operation Epic Fury, which began on Saturday.

He added that the campaign is progressing "ahead of schedule" but did not provide additional specifics.

Trump emphasized that the length of the offensive is linked to dismantling Iran’s conventional missile infrastructure, describing it as an urgent and escalating threat. He noted that Iran's conventional ballistic missile program is expanding "rapidly and dramatically."

"This posed a very clear, colossal threat to America and our forces stationed overseas, the regime already had missiles capable of hitting Europe and our bases, both local and overseas, and would soon have had missiles capable of reaching our beautiful America," he added.

He further stated: “Today, the United States military continues to carry out large-scale combat operations in Iran to eliminate the grave threats posed to America by this terrible terrorist regime."

Trump framed the current offensive as the U.S.’ "last best chance" to confront and eliminate what he called the "intolerable threats posed by this sick and sinister regime."

"Our objectives are clear. First, we're destroying Iran's missile capabilities ... Second, we're annihilating their navy. We've knocked out already 10 ships. They're at the bottom of the sea," he said.
